Adrian Barlow: Director of Public Programmes and University Lecturer in Literature
Adrian Barlow is a Senior Member of Wolfson College and has been a lecturer in English and Architecture for the Institute of Continuing Education for the past ten years. Formerly Chair of Examiners at the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, and a senior figure in A level English curriculum development and assessment, he is series editor of the 21-volume CUP series 'Cambridge Contexts in Literature'.
Oliver Blond: Academic Consultant and Summer School Deputy Course Director
Oliver Blond is Headteacher of The Henrietta Barnett School in North London and an English and Drama specialist by training. He has worked in a variety of schools across London, including as Head of English and Drama at Wimbledon High School and as Deputy Head at North London Collegiate School. He has been involved in the Prince of Wales Education Summer Schools since they began in 2001.
Bernice McCabe: Co-Director
After an English degree at Bristol University, Bernice McCabe taught for sixteen years in mixed comprehensives in Bristol and London, including five years as Head of English and four years as Deputy Head of The Heathland School, Hounslow. Since 1990, she has been a Headmistress: for seven years of Chelmsford County High School, a girls’ grammar, and since 1997 of North London Collegiate, a large 4 – 18 independent school. She has served on national education committees in the maintained and independent sectors and since 2002 has directed The Prince of Wales Education Summer School.
Christopher Pope: Co-Director
Formerly Vice President, Artists & Repertoire, at the Decca Music Group, Christopher Pope was responsible for determining Decca’s artistic strategy, by signing new artists and determining recording policy. He had previously been a Decca producer from 1990-98, before gaining an MBA at the London Business School and working with McKinsey & Co as a management consultant. He began his career at the BBC, having read Music at St Anne’s College, Oxford.
Martin Roberts: Academic Consultant
Martin Roberts has taught History in four schools - one grammar and three comprehensives. This includes the Cherwell School, Oxford, of which he was headteacher from 1981 to 2002. A member of the Historical Association, of whose governing Council he is a member, he writes history books for schools on such topics as the Italian Renaissance for KS3, South Africa since 1945 for GCSE, and Britain 1846-1964 for AS/A2. He is currently writing a history course for English-medium schools in Pakistan, working for the Nuffield Review of 14-19 Education and Training, and is a governor of Oxford Community School.
James Sabben-Clare: Academic Consultant
James Sabben-Clare was Headmaster of Winchester College for fifteen years, and in 1999 was Chairman of the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference. Latterly he has worked as an Education Consultant, in this country and overseas, and has been involved in the development of PTI from its very first beginnings in 2001. He has been, and continues to be, a governor of numerous schools and colleges, ranging from Primary to HE, both independent and maintained.
Stephen Miles: Schools Programme Director
Stephen Miles is currently Head of English at Worle Community School, and previously Senior Lecturer in English ITE at Bath Spa University. He has been involved with The Prince's Teaching Institute since attending the first residential, and has overseen the Schools Programme from its inception. He has been passionate about English and education for twenty years and has a particular interest in the history of Children’s Literature.
Martin Williams: Company Secretary
Born in 1946, Martin Williams is Company Secretary of the Prince’s Teaching Institute and of two of the other charities within the Prince’s Charities Group. Working on a part-time basis, he combines this role with non-executive directorships of Peters Edition Limited, a long-established firm of music publishers, and Marlin Chemicals Limited, international traders in chemicals, plastics and waxes. Before joining the PTI, he was, for over 20 years, chief executive of the Musicians Benevolent Fund - the largest charity in the UK helping musicians and their families in old age, sickness or misfortune. He is a trustee of a number of national charities including the Royal Albert Hall.
