Our CPD and Performance Review
Our CPD ties into the Professional Standards hierarchy for teachers, and will assist a teacher in promotion from QTS via Core, Post Threshold and Excellent Teacher to Advanced Skills Teacher.
Schools are now obliged to file individual Performance Review plans for their teachers by 31 October of each year. These plans will outline how each individual will progress this year in his or her career, according to the career path laid out in the Professional Standards definitions (from QTS via Core, Post Threshold and Excellent Teacher to Advanced Skills Teacher).
Embedded in those Professional Standards definitions is the requirement for a teacher to further his or her subject knowledge. The subject knowledge definitions for the different levels of qualified teacher are as follows:
QTS: “Have a secure knowledge and understanding of their subjects/curriculum areas and related pedagogy to enable them to teach effectively across the age and ability range for which they are trained.”
Core: “Have a secure knowledge and understanding of their subjects/curriculum areas and related pedagogy including: the contribution that their subjects/curriculum areas can make to cross-curricular learning; and recent relevant developments.”
Excellent Teacher: “Have an extensive and deep knowledge and understanding of their subjects/curriculum areas and related pedagogy gained for example through involvement in wider professional networks associated with their subjects/curriculum areas.”
