Charlton School
The History Department at Charlton has really benefited from working with the Prince’s Teaching Institute. We have had the opportunity to work with some talented staff from other schools and share best practice.
The professional development was fantastic and inspired us to push for the best, and develop our own delivery of History. The focus on promoting History as a specialist subject, rather than as a vehicle in which we can deliver generic skills, was very motivating – it re-energised us and made us realise what a fantastic subject we teach.
Over the last year, Charlton has used work done with the PTI to develop new and exciting Schemes of Work, and focus on developing our teaching styles, incorporating more educational visits to inspire pupils and promoting the subject school wide. It really has been exciting and challenging, and we hope that we have improved the quality of History education delivered in our school.
Charlton School is a mixed 11-16 comprehensive school, based in Telford, Shropshire.
