Ryde High School

Our experience as members of the PTI teaching programme has been very positive, and it has enabled us to set and review specific objectives which have enhanced the teaching andRyde High School learning of English at Ryde High School. One example of this is that we have been more adventurous with text choices and have updated our stocks of books.  In addition, the English department has taken over the management of the school library, which has been updated and modernised, and all year groups have been encouraged to be wider readers.

Ryde High 2We have encouraged our students to appreciate how English enhances both leisure and work life. A group of targetted C/D Year 10 students took part in the Aimhigher English Project in conjunction with the Univerity of Winchester. Those involved really enjoyed the experience, especially the day spent at the university, when they particpated in higher level work shops in creative writing, journalism and drama.

Ryde High School is a co-educational community school in the Isle of Wight for students aged 13 to 19.  It is a specialist Language College with Media and Performing Arts as its second specialism and has been awarded 'High Performing Specialist School Status' by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.
