Sir William Stanier Community School

Battlefields trip April 09Back

Since applying to join the Princes’ Teaching Institute Schools' Programme, the History Department at Sir William Stanier Community School has taken up the gauntlet to bring ‘History to life’ for our students. One of the ways we have done this is by providing students with numerous opportunities to participate in educational visits, which have varied from a residential visit to the World War One Battlefields, to visiting museums, a Cotton Mill, the Holocaust Exhibition at the IWM London and taking part in a local history workshop on the Civil War & the Battle of Maritme Museum - slavery exhibitionNantwich.

In addition to this, the Department has been developing links with the local College, providing GCSE students with e-learning activities to enhance and develop their understanding, and hosting a training event for History Teachers in Crewe & Stoke, which was run by the Historical Association.

We are looking forward to the challenge of our second year and the exciting opportunities that this will bring.

Sir William Stanier Community School is based in Crewe, with pupils aged between 11-16 years.
