Wednesfield High School
During the autumn term, year 12 History students acted as ‘ambassadors‘ for ‘A’ level History when they took an active role in the year 11 options fair. This resulted in a positive uptake for Advanced level History. KS4 students were influenced by students who had actually experienced the year 12 History course when making their post -16 option choices. The ‘A’ level achievement board also promoted the subject as one of the most intellectually challenging of the arts subjects and highlighted the academic weighting of the subject when making University applications.
The Head of Department attended all three Wolverhampton LA History network meetings and in the June meeting delivered a presentation on ‘Diversity in History ‘to a group of Heads of History. At the Summer meeting, two year 12 History students who had visited Auschwitz through the Holocaust Educational Trust programme related their experiences to Heads of History in the authority and to pupils and parents at the school awards evening. Their presentation was excellent and relayed their experiences in an empathetic way.
In January, year 7 pupils participated in a performance by the ‘History Squad ‘. This brought history to life for the pupils and evaluations were favourable from both pupils and staff.
