Aims and Objectives

The general Aim of the course for Primary teachers is to provide an opportunity to consider how literature can contribute to the understanding and enjoyment of History.

More particularly, the Objectives are

• to generate discussion about what constitutes an education in history and how it should be best taught, so as both to inspire children and to create a love of History and English
• to give teachers an opportunity to meet authors who have used their extensive historical knowledge to create exciting literature for young people
• to share with secondary teachers views about related issues of common concern
• to develop, through discussion and exchange of ideas, a bank of practical strategies which teachers will be able to implement when they return to their classrooms.
