2012 Maths and Science Summer School
24th - 26th March 2012
The Prince's Teaching Institute held a joint Maths and Science Summer School in Cambridge from Saturday 24th - Monday 26th March. Speakers included:
- Professor Martin Rees OM, the internationally renowned scientist and ex-President of The Royal Society. He is currently Astronomer Royal and Master of Trinity College Cambridge
- Dr Hugh Hunt from the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge and star of the Channel 4 documentary Dambusters
- Professor Celia Hoyles OBE, Director of The National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics
- Mr Francis Wells, Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge and the first surgeon to perform open-heart surgery live on television, in 2007
- Dr Emily Shuckburgh, climate scientist at the British Antarctic Survey, fellow of Darwin College, University of Cambridge, and part-time secondee to the UK Government’s department of Energy and Climate Change.
- Hugh Aldersey-Williams, author of a number of popular science titles, including The Most Beautiful Molecule (1994) and Periodic Tales (Penguin, 2011), a cultural companion to the chemical elements.
The Summer School was attended by 80 Maths and Science teachers from state secondary schools.
