2012 Headteachers' Residential

6th - 7th February, Madingley Hall, University of Cambridge

Conference Aims

The aim of the conference is to consider some key elements of good school leadership and especially how to promote excellence in teaching and learning.

It will explore such questions as:

  • What is the purpose of education?
  • What constitutes good leadership?
  • What curriculum maximises pupils’ life chances?
  • How do we nurture and sustain passionate teachers?

The conference will consist of a mixture of lectures by eminent speakers, seminars with leading practitioners and group workshops. Speakers will include:

Tim Oates

Group Director Of Assessment Research and Development at Cambridge Assessment, and Chair of the expert panel within the Government's National Curriculum Review Advisory Committee.

Delegates will have the opportunity to:

  • Explore key aspects of effective school leadership
  • Examine the importance of a rigorous curriculum, strong subject teaching and extra-curricular provision
  • Discuss what additional freedoms may be available to Heads in the future, and how they might be used for the greatest benefit to their pupils
  • Consider practical strategies on how to develop a culture of good behaviour and high achievement

Attendance at this event will act as an induction onto the PTI Schools Leadership Programme, a membership scheme modeled on the PTI's successful Schools Programme for individual subject departments.

A full programme is available here.

The cost of the event is £395 per delegate, which covers all board, lodging and materials. Please note that as the conference will lead to a final discussion at which conclusions will be drawn, partial attendance is not permissible.
